Takamaru Fishmonger No. 1 (タカマル鮮魚店) is one of 2 Takamaru Fishmonger spots in Shinjuku. They’re both highly rated so it doesn’t matter which one you go to. You’ll get great value for your money…hills of mouth-watering seafood / sushi.
Not only is Takamaru Fishmonger affordable – the decor is spectacular – a Japanese fisherman’s dining hall, if you will. Overall, it’s a great experience for visitors to Shinjuku.
Entrance
Went for a late lunch at 3 pm, so practically no one was there
It’s a 2 floor fish palace. From the menu below, I ordered “Blue Flash” – second row, second from the left. It includes buri, shimesaba. aji, nama shirasu, and sawara. You can literally throw a dart of any one of these and have an amazing time, just in case there’s a language barrier.
Wall Menu
Heaven in Sinjuku
As the above pic, you also get a fishy miso soup, with grilled fish chunks.
Fresh shirasu
2nd floor Dining Area
I heard their crab cream croquettes (カニクリームコロッケ) were fantastic. I heard right. The kraken was released, crab legs and all.
Enormous
Very creamy and with onions inside
Fresh fish can be bought at the 1st floor.

If you’re visiting Tokyo and are in Shinjuku, Takamaru Fishmonger is a worthwhile visit, especially if you’re into sushi / seafood.
