Ramen Afro Beats: Foamy Chicken Ramen Near Shinjuku Gyoen

Part of a Growing “Beats” Family
Ramen Afro Beats is one of several modern ramen shops from the same team. Break Beats in Yūtenji came first, and then Jazzy Beats in Nakameguro.
Afro Beats is their richer chicken ramen (tori paitan) sibling.

A Sleek, Modern Space
Just a short walk from Shinjuku-gyoenmae Station, Afro Beats feels more like a chic bar than a ramen shop. Dim lighting, dark counters, and a low hip-hop soundtrack set the mood. It’s polished in a way that matches the bowl they serve.

Modern, Rich Chicken Ramen
I went with their signature rich chicken ramen with an egg. The broth arrives crowned with a layer of soft foam and a dusting of paprika streaked across the surface. This small touch adds both color and a gentle warmth.

Despite being chicken-rich, the broth isn’t heavy at all. The shoyu (soy sauce) seasoning still shines through, keeping things balanced and clean.
It instantly reminded me of bowls you find in Nara or the greater Kansai area, where tori paitan tends to be smoother, lighter, and even foamier.

Thin straight noodles pull up the broth beautifully. Toppings are minimal and modern: pink low-temperature pork, green negi (spring onions), raw red onions, and a soft ajitama (egg), all fitting the style.
Ramen Afro Beats - Final Thoughts
Ramen Afro Beats is a standout if you’re near Shinjuku Gyoen and want a polished, modern take on chicken ramen. With its sister shops, the “Beats” group is clearly onto something - and this bowl shows exactly why.
